FIRE RESTRICTIONS
Awareness of fire safety and compliance with town fire restrictions are essential to protect our community, natural landscapes, and homes from devastating wildfires. Pursuant to Ordinance No. 2026-06, passed on September 1, 2026, Boulder Town has revised Chapter 130 of the Town Code to align local restrictions with state safety frameworks.
ANNUAL FIRE RESTRICTION SEASON
Under Chapter 130 of the Boulder Town Code, the annual fire restriction season begins May 1 and continues through October 31 each year. During this period, the town defaults to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions unless otherwise modified by resolution of the Town Council based on weather, drought, or fuel moisture conditions.

Note: An “Approved Fire Pit” is defined as a stone, masonry, concrete, or metal fire pit designed to contain flames, protected by a 3-foot radius of noncombustible materials. Under Stage 2 Restrictions (when declared), all open fires are banned, allowing only compressed gas stoves with on/off valves.
STATE FIRE MARSHAL SAFETY REMINDERS
Personal Responsibility: Enjoy seasonal celebrations responsibly and avoid alcohol consumption while handling any allowed ignition sources.
Emergency Preparedness: Always keep a garden hose connected and ready, alongside a bucket of water to soak duds or embers.
Weather Vigilance: Monitor local wind and weather conditions closely. Extinguish any allowed flame immediately if winds increase.
ENFORCEMENT AND PENALTIES
Violations of Chapter 130 are subject to fines established by the Town Council fee schedule. Each prohibited fire, individual firework discharged, or day of continuous violation constitutes a separate offense. Enforcement may be carried out by Boulder Town, the Boulder Town Fire Department, or the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
