Fire Ban and Safety Reminders
Awareness of fire safety and existing fire restrictions in our community is essential. Following these guidelines protects our homes, natural landscapes, and each other from the devastating effects of fires.
Current Fire Restrictions in Boulder Town, Utah
- Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Devices: Discharging or using any kind of fireworks, pyrotechnic devices, or tracer ammunition within the town limits is unlawful. Each separate firework or device used will constitute a separate offense.
- Open Fires: Open fires are permitted only when confined to an improved stone or metal-lined fire pit or if pre-approved by the Town Council and directly supervised by the Town Fire Department. Otherwise, they are strictly prohibited.
- Outdoor Smoking: Smoking outdoors in the town is unlawful, except on a surface cleared of vegetation or other flammable material.
- Vehicle Parking: Be cautious about parking vehicles with hot exhausts on tall grass, which can pose a significant fire danger.
These restrictions are in effect from June 1 to October 31 each year. The Boulder Town Council may implement additional restrictions at other times through appropriate ordinances or resolutions, as they did this year, beginning the fire ban before June 1, 2025.

Current Fire Restrictions in Garfield County, Utah
Stage 1 Fire Restriction Order issued by the State of Utah’s Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, effective June 1, 2025. The order applies to all unincorporated private and state lands within Washington, Kane, and Garfield Counties.
The restrictions are due to current and forecasted dry weather and vegetation conditions in Southwest Utah, and they are intended to prevent forest and rangeland fires. Any of the below acts violates state law and is punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. County law enforcement will enforce these restrictions.
Fire Restriction Definitions:
Stage 1
- No open fires of any kind except within established public facilities in improved campgrounds or picnic areas. -OR- In permanently constructed fire pits at private homes where running water is present.
- No smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer, or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area that is paved or free from dry vegetation.
- No discharging or using any fireworks, tracer ammunition, or other pyrotechnic devices, including exploding targets.
- No cutting, welding, or grinding metal in areas of dry vegetation.
- No operating a motorcycle, chainsaw, ATV, or other small internal combustion engine without an approved and working spark arrestor.
Stage 2
NO OPEN FIRES OF ANY KIND (compressed or liquid gas grills, stoves, firepits with shutoff valve ARE ALLOWED with proper clearance of flammable materials).

Safety Reminders from State Fire Marshal Ted Black
- Responsibility: Enjoy fireworks responsibly and avoid alcohol consumption while using them.
- Preparedness: Keep a garden hose readily available and a bucket of water to soak any “duds” that fail to ignite properly.
- Weather Awareness: Pay close attention to weather conditions. If the wind is blowing, consider celebrating in a different way to prevent sparks from spreading.
Fireworks Usage Guidelines
For those planning to use legal fireworks, please keep the following in mind:
- Purchase Dates: Fireworks can be purchased from June 24 through July 25, December 29 through 31, and the two days leading up to and on Chinese New Year’s Eve.
- Discharge Dates: During the summer, fireworks are allowed from July 2 through 5 and July 22 through 25 only in areas where they are permitted; please refer to local ordinances and laws
- Hours of Use: Fireworks are permitted from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., except on holidays, when the time is extended to midnight.
- Penalties: Setting off fireworks outside of these dates and times can result in a fine of up to $1,000. Using non-approved fireworks from other states is also against the law.
