Vacancies: Join the Boulder Board of Adjustments

Boulder Town is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on the Board of Adjustments.

Serving on the Board of Adjustments is an essential way to directly contribute to informed, well-reasoned decisions regarding land use appeals and variances in accordance with the Utah Land Use, Development, and Management Act (LUDMA) (Utah Code Title 10, Chapter 9a) and Boulder Town ordinances.

What is the Board of Adjustments?

The Board of Adjustments plays a vital role in our local government by acting as an independent, quasi-judicial body to hear and decide upon applications for variances from the terms of the land use ordinance and appeals of decisions made by the land use authority, as mandated by Utah Code § 10-9a-701. The Board meets at least annually or as needed to conduct business.

Responsibilities of a Board of Adjustments Member

  • Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings, including the minimum annual meeting and any additional meetings called to conduct business.
  • Collaborate with fellow members to arrive at fact-based, reasoned, and researched decisions on land-use matters, specifically:
    • Applications for Variances.
    • Appeals of land use authority decisions.
  • Maintain the technical skills necessary for the position, including:
    • The ability to send/receive email and manage file attachments.
    • Competence in using the internet and locating information within Boulder’s codified ordinances.
  • Annually, participate in the Open and Public Meetings Act training, as required by Utah Code § 52-4-207(2), and submit a Conflict of Interest Disclosure, as well as other required items as outlined by town ordinances and state law.

Available Vacancies

Currently accepting applications for one open position on the board:

  • Seat 3: A full, 5-year term, scheduled from January 2026 to December 2030.

  1. Submit in Writing: Letter of interest in the Board of Adjustments vacancy must be received no later than 5 PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2026. You may submit your letter in one of two ways:
    Email: Send it to townclerk@boulder.utah.gov.
    Drop Off: Place a letter in the Town Office dropbox, which is located below the bulletin board to the right of the Community Center front door.

  2. Attend Town Council Meeting: Plan to attend the next Town Council meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 6:00 PM to formally present your application and answer any questions from the Town Council.

Note: Positions are appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Town Council, as mandated by state law.
